Shipping company Belle celebrates 25 years: christening of the ‘Belle’

This year, Rederij Belle is celebrating its 25th anniversary! In honor of this milestone, we look back on our history in our newsletters. This time we take you back to a special moment: the christening of the Belle van Zuylen, 25 years ago.
On a warm summer day in 2001, the time had finally come: after months of restoration, the salon boat was launched again. She glistened in the sunlight, the wood shone like never before and the engine ran smoothly-as if the ship was embracing her second life.
The name of the ship became “Belle van Zuylen,” and this name was carefully chosen. Belle, the Dutch writer and composer, was known for her independent spirit and her motto: “I have no talent for subordination.” Alfred and Sacha, as young entrepreneurs, recognized themselves in this. Moreover, Belle was born in Slot Zuylen and spent much of her life on the Vecht-the same river on which the salon boat would begin her new chapter.
In June 2001, the official christening took place, at a location that could not be more symbolic: next to Slot Zuylen itself. Lucile van Tuyl van Serooskerken, the last resident of the castle, had the honor of christening the Belle van Zuylen. A moment to remember-the start of a new adventure.
Want to know how it went on? Read more in our next newsletter!
